Growing Mushrooms In The Heat Isn’t Easy

The Toadstool Standard. Heat resilient. Lab-pure.

Infographic illustrating the four steps of mushroom growing: 1. Inoculation with a syringe into a jar of sterile grain, 2. Colonization with mycelium spreading through the substrate in a bag, 3. Fruiting with mushrooms beginning to grow on a block, 4. Harvesting fresh mushrooms from a basket. The process from mycelium to mushrooms includes maintaining sterile conditions, optimal environment, and homegrown harvest.

Central and South Texas heat and humidity can make cultivation tricky. Texas Toadstools focuses on strains tested to perform in warmer climates so growers can succeed where others struggle.

Meet the Founder

A man wearing a baseball cap with a shamrock logo holding a large lions beard mushroom in front of him, with a wooden background.

I’m Dewayne, a San Antonio, Texas, grower fascinated by the science and beauty of fungi. After struggling with cultivation in the Texas heat, I began focusing on strains that thrive in warmer climates and sharing what I’ve learned with other growers.

Texas Toadstools exists to make mushroom cultivation approachable, practical, and successful for growers in warm regions.
